Is there such a thing as too much power for your Harley-Davidson? While I haven't
ridden a bike that meets that definition yet, this just may be the bike.Take a close look at the engine and just in back of the oil tank.
Putting a turbo charger on a Sportster would have provided quite adequate power for most
people. But for one power hungry soul, the turbo just wasn't enough. Pass a little gas,
Nitrous Oxide that is, and what you have in a land based missile that puts out over 160
horse power. Remember this is in a bike that weighs under 500 pounds. Yehaw!!!
Accelerate till you see God, then brake.

I have attached runs from a buddies bike I have been
working with. Joel Cox owns the bike and it is a 1995 89 inch sporty also, but has low
compression (flat-top) pistons, stock cams, and an Aerocharger turbo kit installed. Run
Cox.053 was with 16 # of boost and it made 132 hp and 136 torque. Run Cox.055 was on high
boost at 20 # of boost and it made 153 hp and 150 torque. Run Cox.056 was on low boost
with nitrous and it made 164 hp and 182 torque. We were loosing the rpm signal at low rpm
for some reason. Hitting Alt and F8 at the same time will adjust for this. (You probably
already know this, but I just found this out) Just got back from Gulfport, where we
attempted to make a high boost with nitrous pull, but the bandit clutch was having fits.
(It is adjusted so that it takes Godzilla to pull the lever already, so I guess it is time
for a lockup clutch) Run 027 was the best we made at 173 hp. We did not race the bikes at
the track (we were having too much fun already), but we did manage to pick on a few others
on the street. The funniest was when Joel picked on a Ducati running about 75 mph and
motioned for him to go when he was ready. The Ducati downshifted a couple of times and
gassed it, and Joel hit the bottle and the front end came straight up but shot right back
by the other guy. We pulled over because they wanted to know what the hell we had done to
the bike. (life is fun !!) Because of my lighter weight, I still can still beat Joel red
light to red light or 1/8 mile- he spends most of his time in the air : ) , but when we
are rolling faster and he uses high boost and nitrous I don't have enough muscle for him,
yet. |
