Harley-Davidson
Hawgs Nutz Racing
1989 FXRThat's right, we drag race a
Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The name of our team is Hawgs Nutz Racing,
and we race with the All Harley Drag Race Association (AHDRA).
With our basically stock 80 cubic inch motor we finished in the top ten in the nation our
first year on the circuit. That's not bad for our rookie year, but we ride, wrench and
race Harley's, so that wasn't good enough. We are now fitting a 105.6 inch motor into our
89 FXR which we will be running in 10:50 class in '98. We will also be racing with the
American Drag Bike Association (ADBA) and some AMA Prostar races.
If you would like to come watch or RACE with us, contact us through our sponsor, TLC
Racing at 330-644-0709 for details about scheduled race dates and locations. The
same phone number can be used for anyone that would like to help sponsor our team this
coming year. Harley's are expensive and racing them just increases the cost.
You can e-mail us at hawgsnutzracing@juno.com.
Your support of our team will be appreciated.
RANDY
HNR 98 Update
Hawgs Nutz Racing debut their new killer motor during Daytona Bike
Week at the Bithlo Races on March 4 and 5. Preliminary testing has the engine putting out
124 HP at the rear wheel. This should make for an interesting ride. The V-Twin Cafe will
be following Randy's progress at the track and report back any interesting happenings.
Maybe we can get a good look at what goes into turning a street bike into a potent drag
bike. |
 HNR 98 Update
It's not been a good start to our team's race season. After
experiencing clutch/transmission problems in Daytona , keeping our FXR from qualifying,
our Sportster managed to make first round then sucked a valve. Rockingham was pretty much
the same story. Electrical problems shut the big bike down, and the Sportster went out
second round due to slow RT on the lights. Well now comes Reading PA. Guess what, the
Sportster went out second round due bad RTs again. I got to make him practice a whole lot
more. My bike went out first round AGAIN. This time due to miscommunications between my
crew chief and me. I'll eat the crow on this one. BUT, we did manage to pull our ETs down
to 10.97. With the gearing change (happening as we speak) we should be right at 10.70. And
that's where we want to be. We're still running small HD heads so we're limited to smaller
flow numbers. We decided to stay with these cause they still give us the numbers we need
for this class. Now for the bad news. I managed to fracture my ankle at the Reading PA
race. So, I will be out of competition for the next 6 weeks. This should give us time to
fine tune both bikes for serious competition
