Setting the timing

If the motor was properly timed before installation of the module, the timing should be correct after the new module is installed.

Setting static timing is easy. Remove the timing inspection plug above the primary drive housing on the left side of the engine. Removing the spark plugs makes it easier to turn the crankshaft. Put the bike in high gear and rotate the wheel to get the crankshaft to TDC ( top dead center ) on the compression stroke of the front cylinder. The TDC timing mark should be properly aligned in the inspection hole.

Rotate the pickup base plate to cause the LED to turn on and off. Carefully find the point where the LED just turns off while rotating the base plate in a clockwise direction. Lock the base plate in position. Confirm the crankshaft is still at TDC. The timing should be correct.
