Other Useful Parts

If you misplace the idle mixture screw in your Keihin CV carburetor, there are actually two different sources for replacement parts.

This idle mixture needles for CV and butterfly Keihin carburetors allow easy adjustment of the idle mixture. It is a direct replacement of the OEM needle. The knurled adjustment knob makes setting the idle mixture a snap.
For more information visit the Creative Cycle Products site.

Bike Tech has found this to be a handy little part to put on a CV carburetor. Installation of this idle mixture needle is simple. Just remove the old needle, making sure the spring and O-ring are removed along with the it. Place the O-ring and spring on the CCP Idle Mixture Screw and place it in the carburetor. Making idle mixture adjustments can now be easily made while the engine running and without needing a screwdriver.

H-D has used Keihin butterfly and CV type carburetors since 1976. The same injection molded fuel inlet elbow is installed on both types. The OEM elbow breaks easily, can be affected by today's fuels and has a restrictive flow rate. Creative Cycle Products fuel inlet elbow is made from brass and flows 40% more fuel. The increased flow easily keeps up with the demand of a modified engine. The elbow is designed to be a direct replacement for the OEM item.

If you want to improve the throttle response from your OEM CV carburetor for about $3.00, replace the vacuum piston spring with the spring from the Screamin Eagle 44mm CV (part number 27728-99). Stock spring tension is 200/290 grams versus 130/210 for the new spring.

The part number for the Screamin Eagle 44mm CV carburetor Tuner's Kit is #27419-99

Your neighborhood Kawasaki dealer has parts for the CV-40 carburetor. Seems a 1997 Vulcan Classic 1500 uses the same carburetor as  Harley-Davidson.

Kawasaki Part Numbers are as follows:
Pilot Air Screw, Part # 16014-1082
Pilot Screw Plug, Part # 92066-1051

Threads messed up for the idle mixture screw?
In case someone uses a screwdriver that is a bit to wide and messes up the threads for the screw, a 6mm x .75 pitch tap will clean up the threads nicely. Make sure to ground the end of the tap flat so it does not damage the screw seat. (This information courtesy of Rich White)
